Harborne Code of Conduct

1. Always take your permit when visiting and be willing to show it on request.

2. Do not divulge the code number of the gate lock to anyone else; this is a security matter. Anyone proven to have divulged the code with have their permit withdrawn.

3. No dogs, even on a lead. This is a rule on all WMBC reserves.

4. There is one bin, near to the WMBC tool shed, otherwise please take any litter home.

5. The reserve has two ends, north and south, linked by two paths running through the allotments either side of the Chad Brook. There is no access to the allotment plots as you pass through, nor up the tarmac road leading to the upper level of allotments. As from August 1st due to concerns from allotment plot holders there is no access along the backs of the houses between the vehicle gate on Pereira Road and the gate to the orchard. These tracks are marked in red on the site plan. Access to the orchard is via the pinewood only.

6. If you see a scarce or rare bird please text or call 07847 435062 or email harborne@westmidlandbirdclub.org.uk. If you must alert the internet bird lines please state that the site is “Permit Holders Only”. Please do NOT alert bird lines if Coronavirus restrictions are in place at the time.

7. As on any allotment in the country this one is susceptible to theft, etc making the plot holders somewhat defensive. When walking through, if they do not know who you are, they may politely ask; please respond in the same polite tone and be willing to show your Permit.

8. The approach track from Gillhurst Road is quite rough and can be wet after heavy rain; boots are recommended.

9. There are toilets next to the Allotment Society shed.

10. At the south end of the reserve the brook has a short “stepping-stones” type crossing with a rope handrail to assist. Take extra care after heavy rain.

11. The reserve has benches and picnic tables for use by visitors, but please no barbecues, music, ball games or sunbathing. Please consider others as this is a nature reserve where peace and quiet is our watchword.

12. The gate from the Walkway has a coded lock. The code is given on your Permit card and changes annually on 1st March. Once inside the gate please make sure the gate is locked behind you by pushing up the hasp into the body until it clicks, then scroll the numbers at random to lock.
