Shoreline disturbance when photographing birds

Could I please ask all visitors whether taking photos or watching to avoid getting too close to the shoreline and disturbing birds especially as we are moving well into the breeding season. I appreciate everyone wants to have the best view possible but please balance this with the requirements of the birds on site. Many thanks Mark

LadyBirders April Update

I had a fantastic time at the WMBC open day yesterday and I had lots of lovely people expressing interest in how the LadyBirders group is getting on and showing us lots of kindness and support so I thought I'd put a post up to show a brief summary of some of the lovely walks and places we visited throughout April!

We had 5 scheduled walks and we visited places such as Brandon Marsh, Kingsbury Water Park and had multiple trips to the wonderful Belvide reserve for photography workshops with fellow LadyBirder, Kerry France. We also met up with one another for ad-hoc walks in local areas and reserves ☺️ A handful of us joined the WMBC coach trip to Ynys-Hir and we also joined for the first West Birmingham branches walk at Sandwell Valley!

Here is just a small selection of photos that some of the LadyBirders took during…

The hubby and I have been WMBC members for a few years now but haven’t really engaged much with any other members, mainly through work and lockdown. Now we’ve retired, we’ve tried to get out more but mainly on Cannock Chase and Belvide, our closest WMBC reserve. When I heard about the Ladybirders, I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet some like-minded ladies - none of my girlfriends are birders - so I joined! So glad I did. Everyone is super friendly and I’m trying to expand my own knowledge without relying on my husband’s years of birding experience. I can’t wait for my next outing with them! I’m trying to go to other reserves and not just stick to Belvide. If you’re looking for gal pals who love birds, join us!! Karen B

Blithfield hide reroofing update

I have spoken to Oli Douthwaite on Monday and Wednesday this week about the progress being made on reroofing the Forward and Stansley Wood hides. SSW staff were at the hides on Tuesday finalising the right platform size, and Oli confirmed he is now waiting for delivery to allow the work to start, which hopefully will be in the next few days, as always any questions please let me know and I’ll update with progress as it’s made with best regards Mark

Hi Mark - hope you had a good trip to Somerset - SSW guys were due to be starting on SW and Forward hide last week, but I didn’t have chance to get up over the weekend and waiting for an update - I’ll be chasing up tomorrow and will let you know. Could you either email me at blithfield@ or give me a call to set up the first beginners walk? - many thanks Mark

Ospreys

Hi,

I've had 3 visits now and managed to see an osprey near the dam. I also spotted this attached photograph which I think is an osprey dining table?
