About the event
We leave Highfield Rd at 0700 prompt as usual before travelling cross country to the Norfolk Suffolk border. As usual we will have a short comfort stop on the journey. A return visit to the popular reserve of Lakenheath Fen where Cuckoos usually provide the soundtrack signals the last of our monthly field trips until the autumn.
Bittern breed here and can often be seen on short flights over the reeds, Kingfishers sit on suitable perches over the water waiting for a suitable meal. Marsh Harriers also breed here and it is sometimes possible to watch them making food passes, while Hobbies can often be seen in pursuit of Dragonflies. Cranes have bred here and can sometimes be seen with their young on the more remote parts of the reserve.
