Announcing the WMBC Kestrels!

A new birding group for young people aged 8-17!

We are very excited to announce that we are forming a new group for young people across the region, the WMBC Kestrels. This will bring together youngsters who are interested in birds and nature to meet like-minded people of their own generation and of course so they can get out and about birding together! This is a wonderful opportunity to make friends and enjoy birding together in a relaxed friendly group with the first event kicking off in mid September.

Any young person from 8 to 17 can join provided either they or a parent / grandparent / guardian are a member. Also, don’t forget young people from 11 years of age can become a WMBC member as a ‘Next Gen Birder’ at a greatly reduced price.

Our brilliant and enthusiastic group leader, Scott, is arranging events around all four counties that we cover. We also have local experts on board who are looking forward to leading events in each of their local areas so we really can show the next generation of birders some of the best birding across our region! We are planning to arrange at least one meet up each month, but there’s no pressure, so come along to as many as you like.

We’re looking forward to the parents being involved too, as a parent or other appropriate adult will be included and part of the events! Frankly, from our experience of the WMBC Young Birders’ Academy, we expect the parents will have as much fun as the youngsters!

So, put the word out to young people you know and they’ll be welcome to get involved, and if you are a young person then please do join in. To join the group please get in touch with Scott who will be leading the group via Kestrels@WestMidlandBirdClub.org.uk

By the way, if you are young person looking to take your birding to an even higher level (or know such a young person), you could also consider the WMBC Young Birders Academy. This is our one year-long learning programme for kids aged 9 to 13, where they can gain knowledge and experience most people can only achieve over years of birding!

So if you’re interested in the WMBC Kestrels, contact Kestrels@WestMidlandBirdClub.org.uk and let’s get the fun started!
